An orderly supermarket entrance
In a supermarket, the entrance and exit shape the shopper experience and also affect losses. A smooth entrance invites people in. A controlled exit stops people leaving through the entry area without going through the tills, and gives you real data on store traffic.
The Insmartia smart swing gate does both. It opens on its own when it detects a shopper at the entrance and asks for the receipt at the exit, with the illuminated arm showing at every moment whether you can go through.
How an access line is laid out
- Free entry. The radar detects the shopper and the arm opens inwards. No credential needed.
- Controlled exit. The shopper scans the barcode or QR code on their receipt. The controller validates it locally and marks it as used.
- Railings. They guide the route and close off the sides of the lane. They are supplied with the gate.
- Signage. Vinyls on the arm and an optional audible tone to show the direction of passage.
Safety for shoppers and staff
The gate has anti-trap protection, obstacle detection and an unauthorised passage alarm. The opening and closing speed is set to match the traffic at each entrance, and on power failure the gate opens automatically.
Read our guides on how to design free entry and exit with a receipt and on evacuation rules for swing gates in Spain (CTE DB-SI).
Your whole chain on one dashboard
If you run several stores, the Insmartia software applies the same rules to all of them, shows the status of each gate and updates the software remotely. Each chain is handled through configuration, with no custom development.
Upgrade without replacing your gates.
If your current equipment allows it, we add the Insmartia controller to it.
Request a site survey →Frequently asked questions.
How many gates does a supermarket need?
It depends on the number of entrances, the flow of shoppers and the available width. The usual setup combines free entry lanes and controlled exit lanes; we define it during the site survey.
Can shopping trolleys get through?
Yes. The double model gives 1750 mm of clear width and the single model 900 mm. The radar detects the shopper and the arm opens at exactly the right moment.
How does the shopper leave?
With a controlled exit, the shopper scans the code on their receipt and the gate opens. The same receipt cannot be used twice.
What happens in an emergency or a power cut?
The gate opens automatically on power failure. The evacuation route of the premises is reviewed on every project with the responsible engineer.
Does it integrate with my till system?
The exit works by reading the code printed on the receipt. Direct POS integration via API is on our roadmap.
Can I upgrade the gates I already have?
If your equipment allows it, we add the Insmartia controller to it, and you get receipt validation and remote management without replacing the gate.
